We started out Day 4 at the Moholoholo Animal Rehabilitation Centre. It was actually incredibly interesting and wonderful to see all of the wild animals that they were helping at the time and also to film as many of them as we could. There was even a wild giraffe that was walking around the parking lot when we arrived.
We got to experience a pack of wild dogs, walked into a gigantic aviary that was filled with vultures, eagles, owls and a quite a few other birds (I can’t remember how many there were). Luch even had the chance to scratch an eagle while I took the video, because I’m slightly scared of eagles. 🙂
My favourite part of the whole experience had to be seeing the honey badger though. His name was Stoffel and apparently he was quite a little rebel. He used to escape his enclosure all the time and in fact, he even managed to get his hands on someone’s GoPro once and ended up chewing it until he cut his lip.
Stroking a cheetah was definitely another highlight of the day. It was just so incredible to be that close to a wild cat and not be running for your life! 🙂
On our way back to the car, we just happened to run into some students who were volunteering at the sanctuary and I wish I had taken a video because they were looking after a baby honey badger. He was rolling on the ground, getting his tummy tickled and biting all of their toes. It was soooooo cute!
Turns out, it was a day for cute things, because we actually got to see a baby rhino as well in an enclosure right next to our car.
Once we left the sanctuary, the rest of the day was actually a blur, as we had to rush to Nelspruit. You see, our friend was getting married at a venue in Nelspruit and we wanted to be there for it, even though we had only started our 3 month journey.
It ended up being a lovely weekend wedding and it was so nice to catch up with all our friends on all the adventures we had already had in only a week of travelling. Having a soft bed and en-suite toilet was definitely a luxury we had already missed.
